The Core and Non- Core Inflation Measures for Kenya Launched

The National Treasury and Economic Planning on 21st January,2025 officially launched the report on the core and non-core inflation measures at the Treasury Building.

In his speech during the launch, the Principal Secretary for the State Department for Economic Planning, James Muhati revealed that the report marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts by the government in providing deeper insights and more effective responses to inflationary trends. He further reiterated that the report will not only respond to inflation but will also proactively foster an economic environment where inflationary pressures are minimized hence promoting economic stability and resilience.

The report which distinguishes between core and non-core inflation is a dual approach which will provide clear insights that are essential in shaping effective policy.

“With the release of this report, we reinforce our commitment to a proactive data-driven approach to economic stability. Our strategy aligns with our broader vision for a robust economy where price stability supports sustainable growth”, PS Muhati said.

In addition, the PS further said that the use of quality data from KNBS lays a strong foundation to the development, monitoring and evaluating of government policies which are aimed at transforming Kenya’s economy through the Bottom-Up Transformation Agenda (BETA) for inclusive growth.

The Central Bank Governor, Dr. Kamau Thugge who was present during the launch stated that the report will provide a comprehensive view of inflation dynamics hence providing clarity to stakeholders and the public as to what comprises core and non-core inflation.

In conclusion, PS Muhati thanked the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, the Central Bank of Kenya and other stakeholders for working in collaboration to produce this valuable report.
