Launch of Inequality Trends and Diagnostics in Kenya 2020 Report
The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics today hosted the Chief Administrative Secretary, National Treasury and Planning, Eric Simiyu Wafukho as Chief Guest during the be launch of their survey report ,
“Inequality Trends and Diagnostics in Kenya 2020 Report”.
Other leaders at the launch included MacDonald George Obudho, DG, KNBS; Prof Margaret Chesang, DVC , UON; Prof. Murray Leibbrandt, Unicersity of Capetown; Dr. David Anda ; Robert Buckland, European Union ; Katherine Muoki ,ESP and KNBS Board Member
The report is a combined effort of KNBS, University of Nairobi, African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA) , African Centre of Excellence for Inequality Research(ACEIR), Agence Francaise De Development( AFD) and European Union.
Some of the domains where inequality is measured in the report include the following:
1. Asset Inequality, covering household assets and access to land
2. Labour Market Inequality, covering employment, earnings and labour force participation.
3. Social Domains Inequality, covering access to education, healthcare services, safe drinking water , improved sanitation, electricity , internet and mobile phone
4. Gender Inequality, covering labour market, asset ownership, access to education, healthcare services and inequality in political empowerment and participation.
The report also makes recommendations on areas of focus.
