Mr James MuhatiLaunch of the KIPPRA strategic plan and KIPPRA young professionals programme graduation ceremony on 21st December 2023
The Kenya Institute foŕ Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA) launched its Strategic Plan for the period 2023/24-2027/28 today. In the same occasion, the 20th Graduation Ceremony for Young Professionals in 2022/23 Cohort also took place.
The official launch that took place in Nairobi was graced by the Economic Planning Principal Secretary James Muhati.
The Strategic Plan is themed: “Driving Inclusion through transformative Policy Process.”
The KIPPRA Strategic Plan was developed using the guidelines that were issued by the State Department for Economic Planning for all government entities for both National and County levels.
KIPPRA has made quantifiable achievements since inception which includes the coming up of the Public Policy Repository center in 2021 and the launch of annual Kenya Economic Report in 2009 among many others.
The Strategic Plan that was launched today covers a period of 5 years. It is aligned to the Bottom Up Economic Transformation Agenda, the Fourth Medium Term Plan priorities and the Constitution of Kenya.
During the development, KIPPRA benchmarked widely with the international best practices that adhere to research ethics.
Meanwhile, the Young Professionals who graduated today have spent one year at the Institute undergoing capacity building in Public Policy making process and this underscores the contribution of the Institute in enhancing human capacity for evidence-informed public policy making.
“I am encouraged that as a country we are on the right path in building capital to strengthen the policy making process,” said PS Muhati.
Of the twenty three Young Professionals who graduated today, 60% were from Government with 39% being from the National Government and 22% from the County Government. A total of three hundred and thirty three young people have passed through the Young Professionals programme since its inception.
While KIPPRA enjoys the strength of being ISO certified, the institution is faced with some threats.
One of the key threat that the Strategic Plan identified was the rise in cost of living and the cost of doing business.
Present during the occasion was the KIPPRA Board led by the Chairperson, Prof. Benson Ateng’ and the Executive Director Dr Rose Ngugi among others.
