The 3RD Voluntary National Reviews (VNR) reporton Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
Kenya’s Journey on the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs)
In a Summit held in New York in 2015, 193 UN Member States officially adopted the SDGs.
Kenya was not left behind during the adoption. Since then, the Country has been implementing the 17 Goals of the SDGs seamlessly.
The State Department for Economic Planning given the SDGs Coordination Mandate has since been driving the SDGs implementation process for Kenya adhering to the UN agreement of 2015.
Why the SDGs:
The universal objective was to create an environment that advocates for: “Leaving No One Behind,” end poverty globally, ensure protection of the Planet and create policies that advance prosperity for all.
Since the beginning of the SDGs implementation, Kenya has continued moving on the upward trend through registering more milestones yearly.
Some of the milestones realized include; integrating SDGs into the National Development Frameworks, preparing the Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) for monitoring and evaluating the progress, establishing a Multistakeholders Forum where all the relevant implementing agencies converge to share information on the SDGs, creating Capacity Building Programmes and facilitating the Knowledge Management on SDGs and many others.
The State Department for Economic Planning developed the SDGs Good Practices Guidelines to support identification, documentation and management of the SDGs Database.
Formation of the Inter-Agency Technical Committee currently meeting in Nakuru County to develop the 3rd VNR Report adds to the good governance initiatives being put in place by the government to ensure tangible results on SDGs implementation are realized by the end of the term, -the 2030 SDGs Deadline which is fast approaching.
The 2024 3rd VNR Report will provide an update on the comprehensive progress made on SDGs achievements in ensuring that the Country’s future economic growth remains consistent despite the current slowdown.
