Economic Planning Principal Secretary James Muhati led a Kenyan delegation to New York for the “2024 ECOSOC Financing for Development Forum General Debate”. The Principal Secretary observed that Developing countries have an enormous task to overcome financial constraints in order to make progress in implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable development.
ECOSOC is “UN Economic and Social Council. The Theme for 2024 Financing for Development Forum (2024 FfD) is: Embarking on the path toward the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development ( FfD 4).”
The 2024 Financing for Sustainable Development Report reveals that halfway to 2030, the commitments of the Addis Ababa Action Agenda, which provided a global framework for financing sustainable development remain unfulfilled due to slow progress attributed to financial challenges.
As the ECOSOC Forum came to an end on 25/4/2023 in New York, UN Member States adopted the draft Inter-Governmentally agreed conclusions and recommendations (E/FFDF/2024/L.1) through a requested vote. 160 countries voted in favour of the outcome document.
During the final voting, the Kenyan delegation was let by the Economic Planning Principal Secretary James Muhati as an Inter-Governmental high level representative for the Government of Kenya.
