The Principal Secretary of the State Department for Economic Planning James Muhati held a consultative meeting on 14th September 2024 with the PS , State Department for Trade, Alfred K’Ombudo, PS, State Department for ICT and Digital Economy, Eng. John Tanui and UNDP Resident Representative Anthony Ngororano at the Treasury Building.
The meeting brainstormed on the establishment of the Kenya International Development Agency (KIDA).
KIDA is expected to be a government run agency dedicated to harnessing resources from various sources to drive development through offering technical assistance and financial support in thematic priority areas including the private sector players.
The agency will be run in a similar manner like other international development agencies.
The meeting agreed in principle that Kenya needs such an agency and therefore an inter-ministerial technical team be constituted to develop a road map towards establishing KIDA.
The inter-ministerial technical team will convene early next week ahead of the meeting with the Head of Public Service on Wednesday 18th September 2024 to discuss the concept note on establishing KIDA.
KIDA formation is in cognizance of the role that Kenya has played in supporting a number of Nations in various development aspects and security.
Further, having achieved Lower Middle Income Status in 2014, Kenya is expected to expand support beyond the Country’s boundaries.
