Launch of the Kenya Economic Report 2024
The Kenya Economic Report (KER) 2024 was officially launched on 12th September, 2024.
The event was hosted by The Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA) at the Kenya School of Government (KSG), Nairobi. The report was launched by the State Department for Economic Planning (SDEP) Principal Secretary, James Muhati on behalf of the National Treasury and Economic Planning Cabinet Secretary, CPA John Mbadi.
The Report themed,” Enhancing Productivity for Sustained Inclusive Growth in Kenya” is aimed at presenting evidence-based Public Policy options that can foster sustainable and inclusive growth in Kenya by boosting productivity across various sectors.
It is a statutory flagship report which KIPPRA has been annually producing since 2009 and it provides a review of the economic status of Kenya which further informs the development plans for the country.
The KER, 2024 focuses on ten areas which include: medium-term macroeconomic prospects for Kenya, enhancing productivity through trade, enhancing agricultural sector productivity through a transformative agenda, productivity at county level focusing on arid counties, leveraging on digitization to increase productivity in the informal economy, macroeconomic performance, labour productivity in manufacturing, developing skills for productive and future ready workforce, leveraging strategic partnerships in unlocking technology transfer and enhancing productivity in the public service.
These areas are in line with the Fourth Medium Term Plan (MTP IV) which is geared towards Kenya’s economic turnaround and growth through value chain approach.
“Enhancing labour productivity will ensure growth of economic activity from a broad sector approach, resulting in economic turnaround and inclusive growth thus improved livelihoods of Kenyans as enshrined in the MTP IV, which is aligned to the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA),” PS Muhati stated.
Additionally, PS Muhati presided over the KIPPRA 21st graduation ceremony of the Young Professionals Programme 2023/24 Cohort on behalf of CS CPA John Mbadi. He acknowledged the outstanding contributions and potential of Kenya’s next generation policy makers.
KIPPRA is a State Corporation under the State Department for Economic Planning and is mandated to providing quality policy advice to the Government of Kenya and other key stakeholders by conducting policy research and analysis and capacity building in order to contribute to the achievement of national government long-term development objectives.
Others present were; SDEP Economic Planning Secretary, Timothy Gakuu, KIPPRA Chair of the Board, Prof. Benson Etang’, KIPPRA Executive Director, Dr. Rose Ngugi, Private Sector representatives, Development Partners, County Representatives among others.
