Economic Planning Principal Secretary presents submissions on Budget Estimates to Parliamentary Committee on Finance and National Planning

Economic Planning Principal Secretary James Muhati appeared before the National Assembly
Committee on Finance and National Planning at Parliament Building on 14 th May 2024.
The committee invited Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, and Chief Executive Officers
of State Corporations to present their supplementary Budget estimates for the current Financial
Year 2023/2024 and estimates of revenue and expenditures for the Financial Year 2024/2025.
The Principal Secretary briefed the committee on the status of budget implementation, list of
new projects, pending bills, project information, and any significant deviation between the
budget estimates and the approved ceilings of the 2024 Budget Policy Statement.
He thanked the Committee for the support it has accorded the State Department.
Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) are expected to include a list of stalled projects
and any pertinent issues affecting them in the attainment of program performance targets.
The Committee led by Molo MP Kimani Kuria noted that the programs and projects undertaken
by the State Department for Economic Planning were well aligned with the Fourth Medium
Term Plan (MTP IV) of the Kenya Vision 2030 and the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation
Agenda (BETA).
Further, it called on the State Department to harness the wealth of data it produces and
disseminates to advise the government on development matters citing the Kenya Integrated
Household and Budget Survey and the Micro, Small and Medium-Enterprises (MSMEs) Survey
as examples.
