Eregi Teachers Training College 71st Graduation Ceremony
The Economic Planning Principal Secretary, James Muhati has today, Friday, 21st February, 2025 graced the 71st Graduation Ceremony for Eregi Teachers Training College on behalf of the Basic Education Principal Secretary Dr. Belio Kipsang in Kakamega County.
Speaking during the ceremony, Dr. Kipsang said that he had confidence that the graduands are fully equipped with the requisite knowledge and competence for the 21st Century Learning.
The PS further revealed that the government has been keen on investing in people through the provision of quality and affordable healthcare and education so as to develop the country’s human capital in an inclusive and sustainable manner. This is in support of the long-term goal of having a globally competitive education, training and research for education for sustainable development by 2030.
“The government is also committed to achieving ‘the Sustainable Development Goals’ in particular Goal 4 which provides a strong emphasis on providing inclusive and equitable high-quality education and training for lifelong learning and opportunities for all as well as the African Union Agenda 2063- “the Africa we want” which seeks to have well educated citizens and skills revolution underpinned by Science, Technology and Innovation”, PS Kipsang stated.
The PS reiterated that the government has taken deliberate steps to ensure that the education sector policy decisions are informed by up- to -date quality data such as the School Census which was undertaken across the 47 Counties in 2024. It targeted all basic public and private institutions including international schools and special schools with the aim of obtaining up to date quality statistics to inform evidence-based decision-making, education planning, policy formulation, resource allocation and international reporting and comparisons.
Dr. Kipsang congratulated the three hundred and eighty-eight (388) teacher trainee graduands and urged them to utilize the acquired competencies to enhance their classroom practice into a reflective, ethical and professional teacher.
In attendance were: The Deputy County Commissioner for Kakamega South, Geoffrey Mayama, Chairperson of the Eregi Teachers Training College Board of Management, Gerald Magomere, Regional Director of Education, Jared Popiero, Principals from various TTC’s among others.
