Handover ceremony

The Government will continue to undertake tax reforms to broaden the tax base and boost revenue collection, National Treasury and Economic Planning Cabinet Secretary Hon. CPA John Mbadi has said.

 

While speaking during the handover ceremony with the outgoing Cabinet Secretary Prof Njuguna Ndung’u at the Treasury Building, the Cabinet Secretary pledged to fast track reforms to integrate Government payrolls into the Integrated Financial Management and Information  System  (IFMIS).

He acknowledged the massive challenges he would have to surmount including working without the Finance Act, 2024.

 

“I will see to it that the reforms which began under Prof Ndung’u will be finalized and that any unfinished business is not neglected “, the Cabinet Secretary said, adding that the prudent use of public resources were the heart of his agenda.

 

He added that Prof Ndung’u had steered the economy back to stability where inflation eased and the shilling strengthened against major World currencies.

 

Prof Ndung’u said that an understanding of the informal market would be important in developing a tax policy that is predictable  but would not distort  markets.

 

Economic Planning Principal Secretary James Muhati thanked Prof. Ndung’u for the vibrant leadership he demonstrated during his tenure at the National Treasury.

 

He welcomed the new  Cabinet Secretary pledging to accord him all the necessary support.

 

Present during the handover was the The National Treasury Principal Secretary Dr. Chris Kiptoo and Economic Planning Secretary Timothy Gakuu among other senior officials from The National Treasury and Economic Planning.
