Inaugural Program Steering Committee (PSC) for the Kenya component of the Eastern Africa Regional Statistics Program for Results (EARSPforR)
The Economic Planning Principal Secretary James Muhati chaired the Second Program Steering Committee (PSC) Meeting today morning at the Treasury Building.
The Program Steering Committee is composed of technical teams drawn from the World Bank, Kenya National Bureau of Statistics(KNBS), and the National Treasury and Economic Planning.
The Program Steering Committee constituted in September, 2023 is expected to meet twice every Financial Year under the Chairmanship of the Principal Secretary for Economic Planning.
Its main objective is to provide oversight, reporting and strategic guidance of the EARSPforR in Kenya during the program period.
The meeting held today reviewed the minutes of the first meeting which discussed the project funds disbursement tied to achievements made.
As a Regional Eastern Africa Program, EARSPforR is being implemented by Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania from 2022/23 to 2026/27.
Its main objective is to strengthen the regional statistical systems, harmonize, disseminate, and enhance the use of core economic and social statistics.
In Kenya, the Program became effective on 14th January, 2023.
Under the Program, the government of Kenya committed to fund KNBS Budget through the exchequer, due to the critical role it plays in providing data and information statistics for national development.
