Launch of the 9th Kenya National Human Development Report Process at Hilton Hotel, Nairobi on 2/9/2021
The Chief Administrative Secretary, the National Treasury and Planning, Eric Simiyu Wafukho, was today a Chief Guest at the 9th Kenya National Human Development Report Process launch ceremony which was held at Hilton Hotel Nairobi this morning. It brought together Vice Chancellors , development partners , senior government officials and thinktanks.
Human development is both a goal and a process of empowering people to lead valuable lives by expanding human capabilities, freedoms and choices. HD reports play a catalytic role in shaping the policy on key challenges and pointing out new opportunities that need to be exploited for the common good and socio-economic transformation.
Since 1999 , Kenya has partnered with UNDP to release 8 National Human Development Reports which focused on various contextual themes( 1999: Gender and Human Development Report; 2001: Addressing Social & Economic Disparities 2001; 200: Participatory Governance for Human Development; 2005: Linking Industrialization with Human Development 2005; 2006: Human Security & Human Development: A deliberate Choice 2006; 2009: Youth & Human Development: Tapping the Untapped Resources 2009; 2013: Climate Change & Human Development: Harnessing Emerging Opportunities 2013: 2017: Devolution & Human Development 2017).
The 9th Kenya Human Development Report has it’s theme as Human Development in the Covid-19 Era: Envisioning the Recovery in Kenya for Socioeconomic Transformation. Findings from the report will be useful as the country conducts an evaluation of the Medium Term Plan III(Big Four Agenda) and prepares for Medium Term Plan IV of Vision 2030 which will run from 2022 to 2027.
