Official Launch of the ICPD25 Youth Coalition
Planning Principal Secretary Saitoti Torome this morning officially launched the the ICPD25 Youth Coalition at Safari Park Hotel.
The ICPD25 Youth Coalition was established by youth led and youth serving organisations that came together with a vision and goal of promoting meaningful youth engagement and participation during and after the Nairobi Summit on ICPD25.
Kenya was among the 132 Countries that committed to accelerate the implementation of ICPD25 Agenda to improve the quality of life. The country made 17 commitments majorly targeting the youth.
Kenya committed among others to eliminate teenage pregnancies, new adolescent and youth HIV infections and harmful practices such as child marriages while at the same time ensuring universal access to friendly quality reproductive health services and information to the youth and adolescents by 2030. Elimination of mother to child transmission of HIV and severe morbidity such as obstetric fistula among women by 2030 was discussed during the conference.
“The Government through the State Department for Planning has prioritised the ICPD25 Kenya Country Commitments through mainstreaming them in the MTP IV and is in the process of incorporating them in the County Integrated Development Plans”, said the PS.
Youth engagement is very critical in the implementation and achievement of the above commitments and must therefore be involved in these significant actions.
Present during the occasion were among others Principal Secretary Youth Affairs Mr. Charles Sunkuli and National Council for Population and Development Director General Dr. Mohammed Sheikh.
