PS Planning attends the Summit of the Troika and OACPS

On 23rd September 2024, Mr. James Muhati, Principal Secretary, State Department for Economic Planning, attended and represented the country at the Joint Troika Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS).

The Troika Summit was held at the sidelines of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. at the United Nations Headquarters, New York.

The Troika Summit considered and made recommendations to strengthen the OACPS to deliver its mandate. Key among these recommendations include: to explore alternative financing for OACPS; restructuring the organization and appointing OACPS champion amongst the Heads of State and Government. Botswana was appointed the Champion for the OACPS whose key responsibility is to rally member states to support and remain committed to the OACPS programmes as well as fulfil obligations to the organization.

While affirming solidarity with Haiti and expressing readiness to join the security mission in Haiti, the Summit lauded Kenya and Jamaica for leading the Security Mission in Haiti. Kenya was especially encouraged to escalate these efforts to the UN Security Council so as to seek more support to ensure the mission’s success.
