The National Tree Planting campaign at Muumandu Forest Station in Kalawa Sub-County,Machakos County
Tha campaign dubbed Mission 15B #Jaza Miti will see the country’s forest cover move from the current 8.83% to 30% by 2032 with the restoration of the degraded landscapes said Prof. Njuguna Ndung’u.
In a statement read on his behalf by the Ag. Economic Planning Secretary, Timothy Gakuo during the National Tree Planting exercise at Muumandu Forest Station in Kalawa Sub-County, the CS said that Machakos County was targeting to plant ten thousands of tree seedlings to green the County.
This is in line with the National Tree growing and restoration campaign launched by the President in December 2022 with the aim of growing 15B tree seedlings by 2032.
The National Treasury and Economic Planning has adopted Machakos and going forward will walk with the County in Annual tree planting exercises and other tree planting initiatives with the aim of improving the current county tree cover of 6.03%.
During yesterday’s tree planting exercise a total of 414,035 trees were planted 10,000 of which were planted at Muumandu Forest Station.
A total of 173,867 seedlings were planted before yesterday’s exercise making a grand total of 587,902 by 13/11/23.
