PS Mr. James Muhati, on behalf of the CS, Hon. John Mbadi, holds a meeting with Mr. Niels Annen, the Parliamentary State Secretary for Germany Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development
The PS was accompanied by a team from the National Treasury headed by the Director General, Public Debt Management, Mr. Raphael Owino and Directors Kimani and Kiriga from Economic Planning.
The State Secretary who was accompanied by Senior officials from Germany and the German Embassy in Kenya is in the country to meet Kenya government officials and witness preparations of the Shirika Plan which aims to turn Kenya Refugee Camps, which are some of the largest in the world, into self-reliant communities where refugees can live, work, and set up businesses among their local hosts.
During the meeting, PS Muhati lauded historical ties between Kenya and Germany and thanked the German delegation for ongoing support to Kenya. He appreciated that Germany has been providing financial and technical support to Kenya in areas such as TVET, renewable energy and rural development sectors.
The PS assured Mr. Annen that the Government of Kenya is dedicated to expediting projects for which commitments have been made to achieve the objectives and strengthen mutual cooperation. He emphasized that the Government offers numerous investment opportunities for cooperation in strategic sectors expected to have the greatest impact on the economy and household welfare as articulated in the Fourth Medium Term Plan.
The PS further thanked the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany for supporting the Shirika Plan for refugees in Northern Kenya. He also updated the team on the preparations for the upcoming bilateral negotiations in November 2024 to be led by Cabinet Secretary, the National Treasury and Economic Planning, Hon. John Mbadi.
