Grassroots Data Management Phase II Training in Garissa County
Garissa County Commissioner Mr.John Cheruioyot addressed the Assistant County Commissioners, Chiefs and Assistant Chiefs during the official opening of the Grassroots Data Management training for evidence based planning at a Garissa hotel today 15/09/2026.
The CC reminded participants that they are the first contact persons for the government on the ground and the data they collect is key in planning and decision making.
Rashid Shamar an Economist, State Department for Economic Planning explained the importance of grassroots data management when he made his presentation.
“We want to engage the NGAO team on utilization of data for the long term planning of the Kenya Vision 2060. The importance of this data is that it provides basis for decision making and we want to utilize the extensive NGAO network for both sending the data that we collect and validate from the community to make sure that the data we have communicates and speaks to each other to avoid making decisions out of hearsay.” Said Rashid.
He added that, “The decisions we are going to make as a country going forward, will be based on data. If it is an area, we know the population, the water deficiency, the number of students, teachers and all this information will guide the government in making the decisions necessary for the development of the area. For example, this data will help in employing teachers for each school, and eventually, other resources will be allocated accordingly.”
