The Official Opening Of Africa Capital Week 2026

The high-level proceedings marking Africa Capital Week 2026 officially kicked off today Monday, 7th September, 2026 at a Nairobi Hotel.

This year’s edition is anchored on the theme: “Deepening Capital Markets to Advance Africa’s Economic Sovereignty.” It underscores the strategic imperative to mobilise domestic resources, strengthen regulatory frameworks and accelerate investment across key sectors across the Continent.

While officially opening the forum, the Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, H.E. Dr. Musalia Mudavadi, reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to positioning Kenya and Africa as a leading destination for Global and Regional investment.

“A vision without financing is simply an aspiration but a vision connected directly to capital becomes executable economic policy,” PCS Mudavadi said underscoring the importance of strengthening Africa’s financial architecture and mobilising capital to support the Continent’s development ambitions.

The opening plenary set a dynamic tone for the week, featuring top-level discussions on policy alignment, state-owned enterprise privatization and market infrastructure modernization.

Speaking during the opening ceremony, the Economic Planning Principal Secretary, Dr. Bonface Makokha emphasized that attracting capital requires credibility built on reliable information, transparent procurement, good governance, timely disclosure and accountable institutions.

Moreover, for the State Department for Economic Planning, he noted that credibility also means delivering measurable results from investments.

“Capital mobilization is not the outcome but transformation is,” PS Makokha stated. Monitoring and evaluation should be an integral part of the investment architecture and policy process, he added.

PS Makokha further highlighted that as Kenya looks beyond Vision 2030, there is an opportunity to bridge the gap between planning and financing, linking capital markets, public and private investment, domestic savings to National transformation and future prosperity.

Ultimately, as the Africa Capital Week 2026 continues, the forum is expected to strengthen partnerships, deepen investor confidence and catalyze practical solutions for mobilizing capital towards Africa’s development priorities.

Present during the opening ceremony were: The State Department for Public Investments and Assets Management Principal Secretary, Mr. Cyrell Wagunda and Kenya Vision 2030 Board Chairman, Dr. Emmanuel Nzai among other Senior Dignitaries.
